French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed that his country may participate in “Israeli protection and defense” if it was attacked by Iran, but only if France is “in a position that allows it.” He stressed that any support will only be defensive.
Cutted refusal to participate in offensive operations
At a press conference held on Friday evening, Macron categorically explained: “I am not planning to participate in any offensive operation at all,” in a direct reference to the recent Israeli strikes against Iran. With this, Macron puts a separate line between political or defensive support and direct military involvement in the attack.
Warning from regional escalation
These statements came in light of the escalation of tension between Israel and Iran, after Israeli strikes targeting nuclear facilities in Isfahan, amid fears of the expansion of the conflict and its impact on regional security and stability.
