Abu Dhabi: Mira Al -Rashdi, researchers from the “Khalifa University”, developed a device that relies on solar energy with a double performance, which is the production of electricity and fresh water by combining concentrated photovoltaic cells and distillation of membranes in one device, as part of their efforts to address the dual global crisis of energy problems and water scarcity. This hybrid design is based on benefiting from the wasted thermal energy resulting from the solar cells to operate the thermal desalination process, in contrast to the traditional desalination systems that depend on fossil fuels or separate energy sources. Energy magazine supervised the research team, Dr. Mohamed Ali, Dr. Kabir Ali, and Dr. Mustafa Ismail,
