In a new international achievement .. Bahrain wins the membership of the Security Council .. to build bridges of peace for the future

Yesterday, the attention of the world went to the United Nations headquarters in New York City, at the 79th session of the General Assembly, which elected 5 non-permanent members of the Security Council “2026-2027”, where the Kingdom of Bahrain won membership after 186 countries of its 193 are members of the United Nations General Assembly, in addition to Colombia, the Democratic Congo, Liberia and Latvia, all of whom represent the five seats according For geographical groups, namely: a seat for the Latin American and Caribbean group, two seats for the African Group, a seat for the Asia and Passvic group, and a seat for Eastern Europe.

Bahrain was nominated for the Asian group, under the slogan “Building bridges of peace for the present and the future”, embodying the Kingdom’s commitment to diplomacy and international cooperation to ensure security, stability and prosperity for all the peoples of the region and the world, and after this new international diplomatic achievement the Kingdom is preparing to enhance its international position, and to be a strong voice defending regional and international issues. This will be the second time that the non -permanent membership of the Security Council after the 1998-1999 session.

The UN Security Council consists of 15 members, five of them are permanently organic and ten non -permanent members who are elected by the General Assembly that represents all 193 member states at the United Nations. As for the United Nations General Assembly, it is the main device for policy -making in the organization. The General Assembly includes all 193 member states. The General Assembly takes major decisions of the United Nations, including: the appointment of the Secretary -General based on the recommendation of the Security Council, the election of non -permanent members of the Security Council, and the approval of the United Nations budget

The victory of the Kingdom of Bahrain is a distinctive diplomatic success and worthy of merit, and at the same time represents an international appreciation for the efforts that the Kingdom is making through decades of efforts to spread peace, coexistence, cooperation for development and education of those affected in the areas of wars and conflicts, as well as its active and influential presence in all international forums, and its positions and policies based on moderation, balance and support for fair issues, based on their faith With its Arab and Islamic identity, and its keenness to adhere to the principles of the United Nations Charter and International Laws, especially international humanitarian law.

This new achievement comes with non -permanent membership of the UN Security Council 2026 – 2027 to enshrine a long march of effective and effective partnership of Bahrain with the United Nations system, and an expression of the extent to which the visions of the international community match with the advanced model of the Kingdom of modern diplomacy that combines adherence to international principles and the ability to interact with global challenges, and adopt initiatives and practices that enhance its distinguished position, Bahrain contributes to this membership in an effective manner in the international decision -making, for the sake of humanity and its stability in the present and the future.

The priorities of the Kingdom of Bahrain during its membership in the Security Council are a number of frameworks, including: peace and stability, unconventional challenges, participation and integration, and pluralism. During its membership in the Council, the Kingdom will focus on establishing peace and stability in the world and promoting dialogue and coexistence to ensure an integrated approach that addresses the causes of conflict, violence and instability in order to prevent conflicts and resolve them, and build peace and development.

It will work to ensure adherence to international law, including international humanitarian law and international human rights law, and mobilize international humanitarian action, and this includes protecting civilians, intensifying international collective efforts to face challenges that go beyond national borders, especially fighting terrorism and extremism, securing electronic space, ensuring safety and sea security, blocking digital gaps, encouraging cooperation, facing risks related to the use of technology Information and communications, including artificial intelligence, with a greater common ground for climate change in the council.

The Kingdom will also adhere to the advancement of the agenda of women, peace and security, and highlight the capabilities of youth as a power of innovation and progress and their contribution to peace and development, prevent conflicts in the future, work to reform the Security Council within the International Government Group, as the coordinator of the Arab group, enhance cooperation with regional organizations, and commit to the path of pluralism to achieve common goals.
