Humanitarian aid is no longer just providing urgent relief, but rather has turned into a comprehensive vision that puts the dignity and independence of man at the heart of humanitarian work. This approach is what the Kingdom of Bahrain has clearly adopted, and its embodiment through its active participation in the international humanitarian conference organized by the World Health Organization in Geneva.
At the International Conference on Humanitarian Affairs and the annual meeting of the humanitarian part of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC HAS), which was held in Geneva, with the high participation of member states, United Nations agencies and international humanitarian organizations, representatives of civil society and the private sector, Bahrain delegation Sheikh Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Secretary -General of the Royal Humanitarian Foundation who emphasized that Bahraini solidarity is embodied in Repeated and effective humanitarian responses by providing shelter, food, health, educational, psychological and other basic needs. Bahrain was not only a donor, but an active partner in building sustainable solutions.
What is noteworthy in this important conference is to emphasize the need to reset humanitarian action to respond more effectively to crises, enhance the principle of local leadership and stimulate innovative partnerships between local and international actors, as well as improving coordination and directing financing towards societal priorities, and enhancing respect for international humanitarian law.
Bahrain’s initiatives indicate an important shift in the philosophy of humanitarian action, as the aid is no longer measured in its, but rather its sustainable impact on the lives of beneficiaries, such as programs that enhance education, health, and economic and social empowerment that put the human being in the center of decision, which makes him a partner not only recipient.
This trend comes in line with modern human concepts adopted by major international organizations such as the United Nations and the Red Cross. There is an urgent necessity to empower and represent man in all stages of support, while respecting and neutralizing the aid provided to him when needed and where it is.
The irony is that, in light of the existence of an advanced global human vision, the Gaza tragedy – as a model – reveals a dark face of conflict in global humanitarian standards.
