Within the framework of the official visit of the Ministry of Interior and the National Police Council of the Republic of Finland, a delegation of nationality, passport and residence affairs at the Ministry of Interior, headed by Sheikh Hisham bin Abdul Rahman Al Khalifa, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior for Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs, made a field visit to Helsinki International Airport, with the aim of seeing the experience of Finland in the application of smart border monitoring systems.
The visit included a series of meetings with the Finnish Border Control Department and the FINAVIA Airport Company, where the integrated digital system approved at the airport, which allows travelers to cross the border honestly and smoothly using the latest technology.
The delegation also visited the forged document detection center at Helsinki Airport, and reviewed the latest technologies used to examine passports and identity cards, including automated verification and forgery systems, in addition to the approved training mechanisms to raise the efficiency of cadres in dealing with the credibility of the documents.
The visit included detailed technical shows on technical infrastructure, identity verification mechanisms, and electronic linking systems between the competent authorities, in a way that contributes to accelerating procedures and enhancing the efficiency of border security.
Sheikh Hisham bin Abdul Rahman Al Khalifa expressed his appreciation for the development he touched in the application of these systems, stressing that the Kingdom of Bahrain is moving at a steady pace towards developing the passport and ports system, in line with the best global practices, which enhances the ease of movement for citizens, residents and travelers in general.
It should be noted that this visit comes within the efforts of the Kingdom of Bahrain to keep pace with the digital travel identity project with the requirements of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), as part of the shift towards providing additional and interconnected government services that support the comprehensive digital transformation process.
