A number of citizens and workers in Gulf countries have received oral instructions from their work agencies, during the past days, that it is necessary to buy and store sufficient quantities of basic food, in addition to chronic and necessary drugs, in anticipation of any developments that may occur as a result of regional tensions and the possibility of Iran to close the Strait of Hormuz.

One of the workers in a private sector in one of the Gulf states, in statements to Cairo 24, explained that the instructions were not issued in the form of official or written decisions, but they arrived directly from their officials at work, noting that it came within the framework of precautionary preparations as a result of the escalation of political and military tensions in the Gulf region.
The source, who preferred not to be named, said that the directives included the recommendation to provide sufficient food stocks for weeks and buy additional quantities of drugs for patients with pressure, sugar, heart and other chronic cases, pointing out that the conversation was repeated in more than one workplace, which reflects the presence of a general direction to calculate potential repercussions on supply chains.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the most important vital waterways in the world, through which nearly a third of the global oil trade transported by a sea passes, and therefore any military tension or possible closure of it may lead to direct economic and human repercussions on the Arab Gulf states, especially those that depend on import from abroad to meet their basic needs.
