Google has announced its plan to stop the “immediate Android applications” feature by next December, after years of its launch due to the poor demand for it and its lack of achievement expected by developers and users alike.
Google had launched this feature in 2017 with the aim of allowing users an opportunity to try applications and games immediately without the need to install them on their devices, and this experience provided great flexibility by allowing the user to click on the link and experience the application directly in a move that was supposed to contribute to facilitating access to applications and expanding the base of its users.
A feature that has not achieved the desired proliferation
Despite the innovation of the idea in facilitating the experience of applications, the use data showed that this feature did not receive enough popularity among users or developers, and Google has confirmed that the interaction rates with instant applications were low compared to their expectations.
In this context, Nia Carter, a Google spokeswoman, explained that many developers have become more dependent on other more effective tools to discover applications and expand their spread, such as artificial intelligence tools and synchronous application installation technologies that have proven higher in attracting users and motivating them to download the entire applications.
Features of developers within development tools
Some developers have monitored the emergence of an official mention within the “Android Studio” applications environment of Google indicates that the support of instant applications will be removed permanently from the Google Play store in December 2025, and that all publishing tools and application programming facades associated with the Google Play Instant service will stop working after this date.
This mention came as part of the preliminary procedures to inform the developers of the need to stop using this service and go towards the available alternatives.
Restore investments towards more effective tools
“Google” explained that the suspension decision will allow it to redirect its resources and investments towards tools and platforms that achieve better results for developers, and contribute to enhancing the deeper interaction between applications and users by downloading full applications instead of limiting the interim partial experiences.
