The United States announced yesterday, Tuesday, that it had offered a reward of up to five million dollars for any information that leads to an American kidnapped location in Afghanistan since 2022.
US State Department spokeswoman Tami Bruce said in a statement to reporters that Mahmoud Shah Habibi, an American businessman who also holds Afghan citizenship, was kidnapped in Kabul with his driver in a car on August 10, 2022, and was detained by the Taliban.
She noted that he was working as a consultant for a telecommunications company based in Kabul.
She said: “We have not received any news about him since his first arrest, and the Taliban has not yet provided any information about his whereabouts or his health.”
Last January, the Taliban government released two Americans, Ryan Corbett and William McKente, in exchange for the release of an Afghan prisoner in the United States, as part of a Qatari -medium exchange.
The Taliban authorities have arrested dozens of foreigners since they returned to power in August 2021 after the withdrawal of the American forces.
