The nurse and a member of the Board of Directors of the Friends of Health Association, Amal Al -Bastaki, stressed the importance of health awareness of the elderly during their performance of rituals, because of the health challenges and environmental and physical pressures they face, which requires a special preparation and care to maintain their safety.

Al -Bastaki said, in a statement on the occasion of the Hajj season,: “The elderly, despite the suffering of chronic diseases or physical fatigue, insist on performing the Hajj pilgrimage in a high faith spirit. It is our duty to enhance their health awareness, so that their performance of rituals is safe and easy.”

The Pastaki called for a balance between activity and comfort, and the use of legal licenses such as moving chairs or the power of attorney to throw stones when needed, stressing that facilitation is an authentic part of worship.

She warned of the importance of sunbathing and dehydration by drinking water regularly, avoiding exposure to direct sunlight, and using umbrellas and cotton clothes, as well as commitment to taking medications and carrying a healthy card that explains the pathological condition of the pilgrim.

It recommended eating snacks, easy to digest, avoid fatty and unknown foods, and the need to accompany a reliable person to the elderly to provide assistance when needed.

She explained that the elderly, during their presence in feelings, are exposed to clear physical and environmental pressure, starting with stress resulting from walking long distances, through direct exposure to the sun, and ending with problems that may threaten the stability of their health, such as low pressure, high sugar or dehydration. So, it is important to be aware of the methods of prevention and dealing with their bodies gently and mercy.

She stressed the importance of accurate adherence to daily medicines, and recommended that every old pilgrim carry a small health bag containing his basic medications, with a clear schedule for taking it, and an introductory card that explains his health condition and the medicines he takes, to be useful if he needs medical intervention.

She emphasized that from a nutritional point of view, it is preferable for the pilgrim to be keen to eat fluid meals, while avoiding fatty or doubtful foods, as proper nutrition is an essential factor in stabilizing the health condition.

She concluded her statement by emphasizing that “preserving health during the Hajj does not contradict worship, but rather embodies a profound understanding of the religion that puts mercy and awareness in the essence of every worship,” wishing all pilgrims a justified pilgrimage, a gracious pursuit and a safe return.
