The sneake of Ghazlan disappeared from the Al -Reem family, including about 400 heads, from a reserve in Iraq, in mysterious circumstances that angered environmental activists and animal rights, and summoned an official investigation.

Al -Ghazlan lived in a government reserve within the Mandali district of Diyala Governorate, before the Question of the Judiciary, Ali Al -Zuhairi, announced the disappearance of the majority of the herd of the reserve, and the survival of about ten heads of deer in it only.

The TV stations and Iraqi news sites reported Al -Zuhairi’s statements, in which he said that the fate of 390 deer was still unknown, amid suspicions of stealing or smuggling and selling them outside the reserve.

Al -Zuhairi called on government agencies responsible to open an investigation into the disappearance of deer; To hold those involved and protect the remaining rare livestock in the country.

Al -Zuhairi’s statements about the disappearance of the large herd sparked angry reactions on social media in Iraq, in which many bloggers demanded to reveal the truth of what happened.

In the same context, after the escalation of the case, the Diyala Governorate Agriculture Directorate announced yesterday, Sunday, that the reserve was no longer under its responsibility since 2019, and that it has followed the Department of Forestry and Government Desertification as well.

The Iraqi “Eastern” television channel quoted the environmental activist Nazim El -Sayed as saying that the investigation of the disappearance of deer began about a month ago, and it is concentrated on the lack of fodder and drought conditions in the reserve, along with suspicions of smuggling of deer outside.

Al -Sayyid called on the Maqdali district to reveal the results of the investigation, determine the person responsible for the disappearance of deer, and to put urgent solutions to restore life to the reserve.
