The Academy of Scientific Research and Technology launched the year 2024 of the “Bridges of Development” program for joint research projects between Egyptian cadres within universities and research centers and between Egyptian scientists abroad, based on the vision of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to enhance scientific and technological cooperation with all components of the science and innovation system inside and outside Egypt.

Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, affirmed that the “Bridges of Development” program reflects the state’s commitment to linking Egyptian minds at home and abroad to serve the sustainable development goals and enhance the scientific and economic leadership of Egypt. He explained that investing the energies of our children from national competencies inside and outside Egypt is the way to achieve a qualitative shift in scientific research and technology, which is embodied by these joint research projects.
Dr. Jenna Al -Fiqi, Acting Head of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, explained that the program constitutes a vital bridge that links various Egyptian experiences at home and abroad, which provides real opportunities to develop scientific research in priority areas for the future of Egypt such as energy, artificial intelligence, and health, stressing that the program creates an integrated research environment that supports innovation and enhances sustainable development.
The 2024 session witnessed the reception of 83 research projects through the electronic platform, where 69 projects were evaluated in the conditions with the participation of a number of Egyptian universities and research centers, as well as a distinguished participation of Egyptian scientists abroad. After the final evaluation, 12 winning projects were chosen in vital areas that include energy, artificial intelligence, health, medicine, and environmental science.
The winning projects participated in the winners multiple Egyptian bodies, including Nile University, Zewail University, Cairo University, National Research Center, 57357 Hospital, Beni Suef University, Ain Shams University, Zagazig University, and the National Institute for Astronomical and Geophysical Research.
As for international partnerships, they included prestigious international institutions such as Harvard University in the United States, the University of Regiona, Canada, the University of Glasgow Caldonian in the United Kingdom, the Leibniz Institute for Applied Earth Sciences in Germany, the Heart Center in Sigberger Klinken in Germany, Texas Children’s Hospital and Baylor College of Medicine in the United States, the College of Pharmacy and Pharmacy Science at the University of Alberta in Canada, and the center Micro -technology at the University of Huddfield in the United Kingdom, the University of Princeton in the United States, the College of Engineering at Newcastle University in the United Kingdom, and the University of Malaysian Technology (UTM) in Johur.
