Enhancing research and clinical research between Bahrain Medical University and leading academic and health institutions in Thailand

The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI)- Bahrain Medical University recently concluded a new strategic partnership agreement with the College of Medicine at Ramathibudi Hospital of the University of Mahidol in Bangkok, in the Kingdom of Thailand. This important step comes within the framework of the university’s continuous commitment to strengthening its international horizons and consolidating the bonds of academic and secret cooperation at the international level.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed on May 23, in the presence of Professor Samir Al -Atoum, President of the Bahrain Medical University, and Professor Clinical, Dr. Artit Oncante, Dean of the College of Medicine at Ramathibudi Hospital. This agreement will provide students with the University of Bahrain Medical University with distinguished opportunities to participate in clinical and research programs within a wide range of medical specialties in Ramathibudi Hospital, as well as paving the way for academic and exchange projects and joint research initiatives.

Commenting on the agreement, Professor Unanant said: “We believe that this cooperation will enhance the strength of the two institutions, through mutual learning, and the participation of resources and support from both parties in order to achieve global health justice and the development of future health care leaders.”

This prominent agreement came as part of a strategic visit to Thailand, during which the university delegation met with prominent officials, including the co -Professor Dr. Tafisin Tanbrion, Medical Director, and Mrs. Arterat Charcotebbeth, CEO of the Banongrad International Hospital in Bangkok. The conversations dealt with ways to launch clinical training programs in heart disease, as well as explore the prospects for research cooperation in various fields such as diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease, and genes.

Commenting on the importance of this partnership, Professor Al -Atoum stated: “The Memorandum of Understanding with Ramthaibudi Hospital of Mahedol University, and the constructive discussions of it with leading health institutions in Thailand, represents a pivotal turning point in our efforts to provide high -level educational and research experiences and expertise for our students. These efforts embody the commitment of Bahrain Medical University to seek excellence towards excellence Academic and effective engagement in the global health system through purposeful strategic partnerships. “

It is noteworthy that these developments come after the official visit made by His Excellency Ambassador Sumati Chullatta, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to the Kingdom of Bahrain, to the campus of Bahrain Medical University in early May, where the university confirmed during the meeting its intention to consolidate its relations with Thai institutions through institutional partnerships and mutual projects.

In confirmation of this strategic trend, the Bahrain Medical University participated in the 2025 World Diabetes Conference sponsored by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) held in Thailand during the month of April. Where a number of academics and students contributed to scientific discussions and provided valuable research results, which highlighted the importance of regular in -kind examinations for patients with diabetes presents. The results of their research showed that the indicators of diabetic retinopathy may appear at the levels of HBA1C between 5.7% and 6.4%, which is a lower percentage of what was previously believed.
