The Media Center of the Council of Ministers published a number of infographics through its platforms on social media, highlighting Egypt’s serious steps to turn into a regional energy center, reviewing the achievement of electrical connection projects with Arab, African and European countries, foremost of which is the linking project with Saudi Arabia, which represents a strategic start towards the integration of electricity networks regionally and enhancing energy security at the region level.

This comes in light of the state’s boom in producing renewable energy, establishing a strong and integrated infrastructure over the past years, which has contributed to encouraging local and foreign investments in the energy sector, and supporting Egypt’s position as a regional energy axis.
The enfogs highlighted the international praises of electrical connection projects in Egypt, where the International Energy Agency confirmed that the joint electrical link project between Egypt and Saudi Arabia is a large -scale project for the continuous high -voltage current (HVDC), and it is the first of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa, expected that this link allows an energy exchange with a capacity of 3000 megawatts.
For his part, the former “Sweden Ambassador” in Egypt stressed that the electrical connection between Egypt and Europe is the best way to progress in the field of energy, and will benefit the economy of both Egypt and Europe.
The “American International Trade Department” also indicated that Egypt has implemented several electrical connection projects with Jordan, Sudan and Libya, as part of its plan to become a regional energy center, as well as completing the linking projects with Saudi Arabia, Greece and Cyprus and a linking project with Iraq via Jordan.
The infographics highlighted the increase in the volume of nominal capabilities thanks to national projects, as the total nominal capabilities increased by 86.6%, to reach 59.7 thousand megawatts in 2023/2024, compared to 32 thousand megawatts in 2013/2014.
The increase in nominal capabilities comes at a much greater rate than the increase in the maximum pregnancy – which increased by 41%, to reach 36.8 thousand megawatts in 2023/2024, compared to 26.1 thousand megawatts in 2013/2014 – transforms the deficit in the national network to a reserve, which helps in exporting electricity and converting Egypt into a regional energy center.
Envaws showed the most prominent generation projects implemented from various energy sources, among them the Siemens stations (administrative capital, Beni Suef, Burullus) with a total capacity of 14.4 thousand megawatts, as well as the Benban Solar Energy Complex, which is one of the largest energy gatherings in the world, with a total capacity of 1465 megawatts, along with the wind of the wind of the mountain of oil and includes 3 stations with a total capacity of 580 Migat.
The infographics explained that the Egyptian -Saudi electrical connection is a strategic step towards a unified Arab network, where the project contracts were signed in October 2021, to extend from the city of Badr in Egypt to Medina through Tabuk in Saudi Arabia, and the implementation rate for the project on the Egyptian and Saudi sides reached 76.9% until May 2025, and the capabilities of the first stage of exchange reaches 1500 megawatts, while the second reaches 3000 megawatts.
The most prominent gains achieved by the Arab electrical connection are focused on increasing the reliability of the networks by reducing the occurrence of repercussions in the emergency dismissal cases, as well as working to protect the networks of countries that are interconnected from the risks of total or partial extinguishing, as well as achieving an economic return, in addition to exchanging technical expertise through actual employment and joint committees of employment and planning.
The infographics explained that Egypt is the gate of regional and international electrical connection, through the electrical connection with Sudan, which reaches 80 megawatts at the beginning of operation in 2020, and the second phase is being completed to reach the capacity of 300 megawatts.
In the same context, infographics referred to the electrical connection line with Libya, which is being studied to raise its capacity to 2000 megawatts, while the capacity of the electrical connection line with Jordan reaches 550 megawatts, and an agreement was signed in March 2021, to enhance its capacity to reach 2000 megawatts.
In terms of electrical connection with the countries of Europe, which comes from the electrical connection line between Egypt/ Cyprus/ Greece, which aims to exchange electrical capabilities of up to 2000 megawatts.
The electrical capabilities of the first stage of the electrical connection line with Greece also reach 3000 megawatts, and will reach 6000 megawatts in its second stage.
