The Bahrain Space Agency announced the conclusion of the second phase of the satellite load development project for carbon dioxide monitoring, in cooperation with Leicester University in the United Kingdom and the British company “Gi -Seasala Insight”. The project was funded by the British Space Agency’s international dual fund, at a value of 1.4 million pounds.
During the project implementation period, Bahrain Space Agency engineers worked with experts from the British side to develop and design the concept of the task, in addition to the design, development, manufacture and test of the high -spectrum camera for monitoring of oxygen gas, whose data will be used to improve the accuracy of the detection of carbon dioxide. The agency engineers also contributed to the development of a carbon dioxide detection sensor, and to participate in the commercial studies of the project, in addition to studying the possibility of its application and benefiting from its data in the service of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Arab Gulf region in general.
On this achievement, Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim Al -Asiri, CEO of Bahrain Space Agency said: “This cooperation comes within the framework of achieving the agency’s strategic goals, most notably building cooperation relations and implementing joint regional and international projects with technical institutions and research centers working in the space sector, in implementation of the directives of the agency’s board of directors, which is keen to expand the fields of the agency’s work and enhance its presence to serve various sectors. The agency, through this project, with the support of the United Kingdom, with its partners to raise the level of its services, especially those provided by the Data Analysis and Space Pictures Laboratory in a number of areas that serve the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Arab Gulf region.
For its part, Professor Rasha Al -Amad, Head of Strategic Planning at the Bahrain Space Agency, explained: “The emissions of greenhouse gases resulting from human activities are the main engine of climate change. In order to unify national and global efforts towards reducing these emissions, we need to monitor them accurately in various sectors and geographical regions. To enable countries and institutions to understand their emissions, develop effective strategies to reduce them, and achieve the goals of carbon neutrality. “
Space engineer Yaqoub Al -Qassab also stated: “The completion of the second phase of the satellite load development project to detect carbon dioxide is a distinct achievement, as the agency engineers and experts have gained advanced technical experiences in the field of high -resolution visual load development and the mechanisms of checking their readiness. When launching into space, this load will provide accurate and independent data for the first time for the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Gulf region Al -Arabi.
