The Mersal Foundation, a member of the National Alliance of National and Development Action, launched a blood donation campaign, in order to support blood banks and provide the necessary reserves to save critical cases, in conjunction with the International Blood Donation Day, which is celebrated 14 June of each year.
The event was held with the participation of 6 volunteers and 29 donors, and the Mursal Foundation stressed the importance of consolidating the culture of regular voluntary blood donation, as one of the forms of human solidarity necessary to support the health system and provide safe blood units for the needy.
Heba Rashid: An effective way to save patients and a symbol of social solidarity
Heba Rashid, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Mursal Foundation, praised the efforts of the state represented by the Ministry of Health and the National Center for Blood Transportation, stressing that donating blood is a symbol of social solidarity and one of the effective means to save patients in governorates and remote societies, adding: We work through the National Alliance of Private and Development to organize field and awareness campaigns in cooperation with the concerned authorities, and we seek to encourage young people and students to overcome concerns Associated with donation and enhancing their regular participation.
She added: This occasion is an opportunity to shed light on the vital role of donors in saving lives, especially in light of the continuous increase in the need for blood as a result of accidents, chronic diseases and surgeries, and the data of the Ministry of Health and Population indicates that Egypt still needs to raise the percentage of voluntary donation to reach 2-3% of the population annually, compared to the current one that does not exceed 1%.
During the year 2024, the blood transfusion system in Egypt organized more than 5480 field campaigns, which resulted in the collection of more than 1.25 million blood units and its derivatives. The electronic link between the blood banks contributed to the update of the data periodically and improve the rapid response to the emergency needs, especially during the seasonal periods that witness an increase in accidents.
The Mersal Foundation affirmed its commitment to continue these efforts, through partnership with the National Alliance and the relevant authorities; To ensure safe blood reaches everyone who needs it, and consolidating the culture of giving as part of national social responsibility.
