Alaa Farouk, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, affirmed the intensification of the efforts of all the agencies affiliated with the Ministry to enhance Egyptian food security, and the failure of this sector to be affected in light of the challenges and regional events that the region is going through and the repercussions of the Iran -Israeli war.
Farouk pointed out that despite the impact of these events on global supply chains and food prices, the Ministry of Agriculture continued its efforts to ensure the achievement of food security for citizens, through a comprehensive set of important proactive measures to ensure the achievement of stability in the Egyptian food file.
The Minister of Agriculture stressed the flow of Egyptian agricultural exports and imports, which witnessed an unprecedented rise this year, in addition to the ongoing efforts made by the relevant ministry’s agencies, including the Egyptian agricultural quarantine and external agricultural relations, to open new markets for Egyptian agricultural crops and goods, which contributes to increasing national income and providing hard currency to the country.
Farouk pointed to the important role played by the Central Administration of Agricultural Stone to study and adopt new origins to import strategic agricultural goods, as well as important production inputs, with the aim of diversifying sources of importing basic food commodities to ensure that no disturbances are affected in a specific country, in addition to contributing to the relevant ministries in promoting the strategic stock of these goods to ensure their availability continuously.
The Minister of Agriculture affirmed the ministry’s keenness to provide all forms of support to the Egyptian farmer, as it is the backbone of agricultural production, and to encourage it to increase productivity, by providing it with production inputs, approved and improved seeds, as well as the continuous awareness and guidance to follow the good modern agricultural practices, which contribute to increasing agricultural productivity, and the optimal exploitation of the land and water units.
Agriculture: a flow in the movement of Egyptian agricultural exports and imports
Farouk said that the Egyptian state, led by President Abdel Fattah El -Sisi, is able to face crises, through the pre -emptive measures that are taken continuously, in order to avoid any regional or international conditions, and to face the challenges, noting that thanks to many major and giant national agricultural projects that were launched during the era of President Sisi, they contributed to increasing the agricultural area, as well as his interest and continuous follow -up to the agricultural and security file The Egyptian food, which contributed to achieving an unprecedented boom in this important sector, due to its extreme importance, adding that there are continuous efforts to raise the efficiency of all resources to increase productivity and reduce losses.
He explained that the pre -emptive measures taken by the Ministry will contribute effectively to enhancing Egypt’s ability to provide its food needs, and protecting citizens from the fluctuations of global markets, saying: Food security is national security, and we will not spare an effort to achieve and preserve it.
In a related context, Dr. Mohamed Al -Mansi, head of the Central Administration for Agricultural Quarantine, stressed that there are assignments from Alaa Farouk, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, and continuous follow -up by Dr. Ahmed Adam, Head of the Agricultural Services Sector, with continuous follow -up and discussing the impact of the repercussions of the war between Iran and Israel on both Egypt’s agricultural exports and its imports of strategic agricultural goods.
Al -Mansi affirmed the continuation of the smooth flow of the Egyptian agricultural exports movement abroad, as it reached 5.2 million tons in the middle of this year, noting that most of the export seasons of the majority of crops are about to finish or have already ended such as strawberry, coffee and potato Agricultural crops are expected to achieve a great boom and growth this season.
He pointed to the continuation of the flow of imports from strategic commodities to Egypt, where, from the beginning of last January and until now, about 4.9 million tons of wheat, 4.2 million tons of yellow corn have been imported, in addition to 2.2 million tons of soybeans.
He explained that the agricultural stone is currently studying several new origins for importing strategic goods as well as the origins of various production inputs, as a priority has been put in place for several new countries to import from them based on the high potential production in light of climate changes while setting controls for risk management, specifically the risk of pests to prevent entry, spread or settle any new pests that have an economic impact.
