I put Ministry of Transportation A comprehensive plan to develop a sustainable and friendly urban urban transport network, especially in the fields of the subway and group electrical traction, during the period from 2014 until June 30, 2025.
The Ministry of Transport plan aims to serve urban expansion and increased population growth, and to enhance the economic, tourism and industrial movement, while providing modern, safe and comfortable collective transport services, within the framework of Egypt’s 2030 vision and building the new republic.
First: subway projects and electrical traction
The Ministry has implemented a number of major projects at the level of the Republic, the most prominent of which are:
- Light electric train (LRT): The first and second phases of the project were opened with a length of 70 km and 12 stations, and the work is completed on the third and fourth stages, bringing the total length to 105 km.
- Adly Mansour Central Station: It was built on an area of 15 acres at a cost of 1.3 billion pounds, and is a recipient center for five different transportation, which enhances integration between transportation networks.
- The third line of the subway: its implementation was completed in all its stages, with the supply of 32 air -conditioned trains to update the service.
- The fourth line of the metro: Its first stage is being implemented with a length of 19 km and includes 16 stations linking the sixth of October to Al -Fustat.
- Rapid Electric Train Network: It is one of the largest national projects, and it consists of three lines with a total of 2000 km and 60 stations:
- The first line: Al -Ain Sukhna – Al -Alamein – Marsa Matrouh (660 km).
- The second line: October – Aswan – Abu Simbel (1100 km).
- The third line: Qena – Hurghada – Safaga (175 km).
- Monorail Project:
East Nile Monoril: 56.5 km and 22 stations.
West Nile Monoril: 43.8 km and 13 stations.
- Alexandria transport projects:
Alexandria Metro (Abu Qir – Misr Station) with a length of 21.7 km and 20 stations.
Rehabilitation of sand tram with a length of 13.2 km and 24 stations.
Second: The localization of the transport industry
In response to the directives of the political leadership, the Ministry of Transport sought to localize the rail transport industry in Egypt through strategic partnerships with international and local companies, most notably:
- French Alstom Company: Establishing an industrial complex in Burj Al Arab on an area of 40 acres to produce mobile units and infrastructure missions.
- Spanish company Cole Wi: Establishing a train spare parts factory at Kom Abu Radi workshops, and experimental production has already begun.
- Hyundai Rotim Korean and Nirk: a partnership to manufacture 40 trains (320 vehicles) for Cairo metro inside a factory created in East Port Said.
- Austrian Fost Alban Company: Establishing a railway keys and the development of Abbasiya workshops.
- Suez Steel: Factory to produce bars with a capacity of one million tons annually.
- Ezz Steel: The production of steel panels needed to manufacture the bodies of trains, metro and ships.
- Vancat factories: Create 6 factories to produce flankables for the railway, of which 4 are for the highway network.
- Egyptian national companies: Cooperation with companies such as Al -Nasr, Man Qastur and Al -Jayoushi to supply buses, and with Al -Suwaidi and Abazaz to supply trucks and trailers.
