The medical team of the Mansoura Hospital succeeded in performing the first operation of its kind to inject a medicine for Lwingz, into the glass body of a premature baby with a retinopathy resulting from premature birth (ROP), as part of the initiative to see hope, to early detecting disease and prevent its complications that may lead to vision loss.

Dr. Tamer Madkour, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health in Dakahlia, said that this qualitative intervention represents a pivotal step in developing health care services for newborns, and opens horizons for expanding the initiative in the future, stressing the commitment of the health sector in the governorate to provide the latest treatment methods for the most vulnerable groups.
He pointed out that the operation was conducted by a team specialized in network surgery that included Dr. Ahmed Al -Najdi and Dr. Mohamed Moawad, with the participation of the nursing team led by the nurse Azza Eid, and the initiative’s coordinator Dr. Hayam Al -Hamaki and Dr. Amr Zaghloul.
The case began to follow up since her entry into the Sinbillawain General Hospital, where Dr. Doaa Nabil, Head of the Civilization Department, registered the child within the electronic initiative system, and the date of the examination was set in coordination with the Al -Rumid Hospital according to the approved medical protocol.
This step comes under the auspices of Dr. Ahmed Al -Bili, Undersecretary of the Directorate of Medical Medicine, and direct supervision of Dr. Ahmed Hassan, Director of Ramd Al -Mansoura Hospital and Al -Ramd consultant at the Health Directorate, and with the follow -up of Dr. Basma Shawkat, Director of the Civilization Department in the Directorate.
It is noteworthy that the vision initiative was launched by the Directorate of Health Affairs in Dakahlia in February 2025, in cooperation with the unit of the infinite at Mansoura University, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Mohamed Reda Bassiouni, and Professor Dr. Amjad Al -Naqrashi, with the aim of conducting early checks for children of civilization exposed to ROP, within an integrated model that combines intensive care for children and ophthalmology services.
