Dr. Mohamed Sami Abdel -Sadiq, President of Cairo University, witnessed the activities of the opening session of the annual scientific conference of the Information and Decision Support Center in its second session under the title “Structural and Institutional Reforms in Egypt: The Road to Sustainable Growth”, in cooperation with the College of Economics and Political Science, which was held under the auspices of Dr. Mustafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, at the headquarters of the new administrative capital.
The activities of the conference witnessed, Mr. Ahmed Kajuk, Minister of Finance, a group of former ministers and heads of agencies and bodies, Dr. Mahmoud Al -Saeed, Vice President of Cairo University for Graduate Studies and Research, Dr. Hanan Mohamed Ali, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Political Science, Dr. Umniah Helmy, Professor of Economy and member of the Scientific Consultative Committee at the Information and Decision Support Center, the President of the Conference, and a group of faculty members at Cairo University and Egyptian universities, researchers, and researchers, And economists from inside and outside Egypt.
Dr. Mustafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, during his speech via video technology, referred to the distinguished partnership between Cairo University as one of the most ancient academic institutions in Egypt and the Information Center and Decision Support as one of the most important centers of pioneering government thought, noting that the conference activities are held in an accurate global circumstance, in light of the remarkable slowdown in the global economy The precedent of the levels of uncertainty about policies, which is greatly reflected in the ability of the governments of the countries of the world to deal with these complex challenges, pointing out that the global economic system, in which the countries of the world have worked over the past eighty years, and based on economic cooperation and international pluralism, is now reshaped, marking the entry of the global economy a new era whose economic features are still not clear. Dr. Rania Al -Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, during her speech via video technology, referred to the efforts of the Egyptian state in economic reform implemented by the Ministry of Planning, to enhance its hardness and ability to withstand in the face of various challenges, stressing the effectiveness of economic policies undertaken by the Egyptian state and implementing a number of institutional and structural reforms within the sectors of oil, transportation, tourism, etc. To discuss the conference for the role of structural and institutional reforms to support sustainable development.
At the beginning of his speech, Dr. Mohamed Sami Abdel -Sadiq explained that this conference is a product of the fruit of cooperation between the College of Economics and Political Science and the Information and Decision Support Center, and discusses the issue of structural and institutional reforms as an introduction to achieving sustainable development, which is one of the most influential issues on the present and future Political, economic and social dimensions, which highlight the urgent need to bring about comprehensive structural and institutional reforms that have the ability to make a sustainable transformation in the path of national development.
The President of Cairo University pointed to the structural and institutional reforms carried out by the Egyptian government in many sectors, which started since the launch of the National Structural Reforms Program in its first stage in 2016, and the second in 2021, which was consistent with the sustainable development goals and Egypt’s 2030 vision and with interest in innovation and improving the business environment.
Dr. Mohamed Sami Abdel -Sadiq reviewed the features of the Cairo University experience and its role in supporting the state’s efforts in institutional reform and achieving development through its centers that number more than 140 research and service centers, providing scientific studies and applied research in various sectors, and plays an important role in supporting decision makers by providing a specialized knowledge base that supports the drawing and implementation of structural reforms in a way that is consistent with Egypt’s Vision 2030, referring to The great progress achieved by the university in the field of scientific research in terms of the quality of research published in the tight scientific journals, and the large number of reference certificates, or their progress in various international classifications.
The President of Cairo University pointed to the university’s efforts in the field of sustainability, as it established the first sustainability office at the level of Egyptian government universities with the aim of enhancing institutional sustainability, and contributing to preparing cadres capable of finding fair environmental solutions, adding that the university falls among the best 300 universities within the English QS classification, and it ranked silver in the rating of evaluation and tracking sustainability in the staff, and on its way to obtain the golden rank.
For his part, Dr. Osama El -Gohary, Assistant Prime Minister and President of the Information and Decision Support Center, stressed the importance of holding the annual conference of the center for the year 2025 in cooperation with the College of Economics and Political Science, with the aim of providing practical recommendations for decision makers to support the Egyptian state’s efforts in the process of reform and sustainable development, pointing to the challenges facing the global economic system and the high global rate of customs definition that the global economy has not witnessed before, and slowed global economic growth, In addition to the internal challenges facing the Egyptian economy and its endeavor to restore its balance.
For his part, Dr. Mahmoud Mohy El -Din pointed out during his opening speech via video technology, Convention, the most prominent dilemmas facing the Egyptian economy, such as the escalation of the burden of external debt, pointing to the priorities of Egypt’s current program with the International Monetary Fund, and includes growth, employment, investment accumulation, development financing, public debt management and control of the budget deficit, targeting inflation, achieving a qualitative shift in export, and settling the field Economic, fair competition, localization of sustainable development, and the two chronic crises in Egypt, which are the challenges of spending, revenue crisis, import challenges, export crisis, investment challenges and savings crisis.
Dr. Mahmoud Mohy El -Din stressed the need to achieve sustainable and comprehensive growth through the development of public policies, focus on accumulation over time, economic empowerment, localization of sustainable development, and governance, pointing to the goals of sustainable sustainable development through economic diversification, digital transformation, human investment, investment in the green economy, and investment in technological structure and policies.
Dr. Umniah Helmy, President of the Conference, explained that this conference coincided with the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the Information Center, which has become one of the best leading thought institutions at the local, regional and international levels, and the college obtaining international institutional accreditation from the major British bodies with the highest classification that an educational institution can obtain, referring to the complex and unprecedented challenges that the world is witnessing at the present time since the Corona crisis to the war to the war.
