China said it is currently evaluating the proposals made by the United States to start trade talks, in a slight shift in its accent that may open the door to negotiations.
A spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of Commerce said in a statement issued on Friday that the United States recently sent multiple messages to China through concerned parties, hoping to start talks with it and China is currently being evaluated.
Customs war
A spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry said: The United States has started the war of customs duties and trade unilaterally, and if it wants to negotiate, it must show real honesty – this includes preparing to correct its mistakes and cancel its unilateral increases in customs duties. He added: China’s position is fixed: If the matter is a struggle, then we will communicate it to the end and if it is words, then the door is open.
These comments indicate that Beijing’s position, which has been strongly defying amid the escalation of tensions with the United States due to the warfare war launched by President Donald Trump.
Since last week, Trump has repeatedly repeated that his administration is holding talks with Chinese officials to reach a trade agreement – but Beijing was met each time with a definitive exile.
