US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in an interview with the CBS News network that the ongoing efforts on the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip have made some progress “but there is more work to be done.”
“We hope to hear good news soon about Gaza, but some obstacles are still in place,” Rubio added.
The US Secretary of State talked about negotiations with Iran, saying: “Iran can never possess a nuclear weapon, and we hope to reach an agreement with it by diplomatic means … and are committed to that.”
The “Axius” news website was quoted by a US official and informed sources as saying that the administration of President Donald Trump submitted to Iran a proposal to a nuclear agreement during the fourth round of the negotiations.
The sources, which the site did not name, stated that the American envoy Steve Witkev prepared with his team an American proposal that defines the standards of the Trump administration “for an Iranian civil nuclear program” and the necessary requirements to monitor and verify it.
On Saturday, Rubio contacted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the second in three days, in which they discussed the situation in Gaza, according to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at a time when the Hebrew state expanded its attack in the Strip.
The ministry spokeswoman, Tami Bruce, said that Rubio and Netanyahu “discussed the situation in Gaza and their joint efforts to secure the release of the hostages who are still protesters.”
