In a shocking incident that opens the door wide in front of serious questions about securing personal data and digital customer services, Mrs. Shaima Bahij, residing in Luxor Governorate, announced that she was subjected to a complex electronic fraud while she was in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to perform the Umrah of the blessed month of Ramadan.

According to what she published on her personal page on the social networking site “Facebook”, “Shaima” confirmed that an unknown person managed to change the numbers of her mobile phone registered with Vodafone and Orange, without her knowledge, using a forged national number card.

These numbers were later used to communicate with the customer of the National Bank of Egypt, and then their bank accounts were hacked and money was transferred to unknown electronic portfolios.

Official reports and complaints without response

The affected added that she had edited an official report of the incident, and she accompanied him complete documentation of the details of her travel, her entry and her exit from Egypt, to prove that she was not present inside the country at the time of the crime.

She also made it clear that she had provided four electronic complaints through the official website of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, but she did not receive any reminiscent response.

Shaima Bahij called in its post from the National Bank of Egypt and the communications companies concerned with revealing how to reach its secret data, stressing that it maintains all the documents proving that it is stolen.

An appeal to officials and a warning to citizens

She concluded its publication by directing an official complaint to the Central Bank of Egypt, the Presidency of the Republic, the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and the Internet Investigations, appealing to the concerned authorities to immediately move to protect citizens from such repeated electronic crimes.

She also directed a public warning to all citizens not to deal with the National Bank of Egypt, loaded with it as part of the responsibility as a result of “the ease of penetration of its data through customer service,” as she put it.

Reactions and waiting for investigations

There was no official response from the aforementioned authorities regarding the incident.

While this complaint is expected to open the door to extensive investigations on the integrity of digital procedures in banks and telecommunications companies, especially in light of the increasing electronic fraud incidents inside Egypt during the recent period.
