Netanyahu described the current stage as very critical days, noting that contacts about the deal are accelerating behind the scenes, and that the release of Alexander, who holds American citizenship alongside the Israeli, may hold political and diplomatic dimensions that exceed the human side.
Sources familiar with the negotiations suggest that this step, if completed, will be part of broader arrangements aimed at improving the atmosphere before expected talks between Trump and regional leaders in the Saudi capital, Riyadh.
This news comes at a time when the pressure on Israel is increasing to achieve progress in the file of prisoners and missing persons, especially in light of the growing internal criticism of the government’s performance in this file.
