Dr. Mustafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, and his companions, visited during their tour today in the Diabetes Mine to Produce Gold in Marsa Alam, manufacturing workshops in the mine, and they went to watch the underground mining work, in addition to inspecting the solar power plant in the mine.

The Prime Minister began to inspect the workshops of the mine and the body of discharge for the alkalha trucks that are manufactured locally, as he listened to an explanation from Eng. Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, who gave an overview of the methods used in gold extraction operations from the underground, and the latest equipment that is used in the Diabetes mine, in addition to an explanation about the tunnels strengthening, the latest quality control methods used to ensure stability and safety of operations Gold extraction, as well as the quantities of progressive drilling and production that were implemented in the underground mine, as well as future plans for mining work in the mine, in addition to future infrastructure, and the targeted development plans under the supervision of Angelo Gold Ashanti International.
Engineer Karim Badawi said: The Diabetes Mine contributes to supporting small production projects for the people of Marsa Alam and the surrounding regions, as part of community development efforts, and the establishment of the first school of mining industry in the city of Marsa Alam has been completed.
Engineer Mahmoud Raslan, Deputy Director of Underground Mining, provided an explanation before the Prime Minister, about safety and security standards at the mining site in the mine, indicating in this regard that work in the Diabetes mine depends on the application of the highest international standards for occupational safety and health, which enabled it to achieve distinguished performance rates that exceed the global indicators adopted in the mining sector, and in line with the global standards and the latest technology used in the industry.
Dr. Mustafa Madbouly, during his inspection tour today at the Diabetes Mine, was keen to visit the solar power plant in the mine that was established with a capacity of 36 megawatts in the context of adhering to preserving the environment and reducing emissions, and reducing the consumption of traditional fuel from the diesel.
During this, it was emphasized that the establishment of the station came as one of the solutions to rationalizing expenses and maintaining the sustainability of production, and to glorify the benefit of the geographical location of the mine in the Eastern Desert region, which is the highest area that witnesses the brightness of the sun until about 10 hours per day, and the largest station that serves a mining mine.
The Prime Minister listened to an explanation from Eng. Ahmed Adel Abdel Naim, a specialist in the Electricity of the Diabetes Mine, who indicated that the Diabetes Mine of Gold depends on providing more than 20% of the energy needs through solar energy as a clean energy source, while working to study possible expansions in it; In order to fully rely on the supply of the mine with solar energy.
He added: The station contributes to reducing fuel consumption in the mine by 22 million liters annually, as well as reducing carbon emissions by a rate of 60,000 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent annually, pointing out that it is planned in the future to link with the national network, and increase the ability of the solar power plant to 45 megawatts.
At the conclusion of his field tour of the mine, the Prime Minister praised the development of business in the mine, and praised the use of modern technologies in the ongoing work on the site and the qualified cadres, expressing his happiness with what he saw in the mine, calling for continuing to intensify the efforts made to increase the contribution of mine production in the Egyptian economy.
