Dr. Sherif Farouk, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, discussed with the Bulgarian Ambassador in Cairo, Diane Katratchif, to enhance the ways of joint cooperation and increase the volume of trade exchange between the two countries, in the presence of Georgy Nidalkov, Commercial Adviser, and Alexander Severinov, the third secretary of the Bulgarian embassy in Cairo, within the framework of strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
The Minister expressed Egypt’s appreciation for the historical relations that link the two countries, stressing the importance of opening new horizons for cooperation in the fields of trade and industry, especially in the food industries sector, grains, storage, and logistical transport. The Minister also reviewed the Egyptian state’s efforts to enhance food security and develop supply chains in cooperation with international partners.
During the meeting, it was consulted about the increase in the rates of wheat supply from Bulgaria to Egypt, in light of what was achieved during the previous period, and proposals were made to benefit from the advanced infrastructure for Egyptian silos in improving supply chains coming from eastern Europe, within the framework of the ministry’s plan to raise storage capacity and support national food security.
The Bulgarian Ambassador affirmed his country’s interest in enhancing economic cooperation with Egypt, noting that the Egyptian market represents an important gateway to Bulgarian products to the Middle East and Africa markets, and he also expressed the readiness of a number of Bulgarian investors and companies to enter into investment partnerships and joint projects with the public and private sectors in Egypt.
The two sides agreed to continue joint coordination during the coming period, with the participation of representatives of the private sector and investors, to explore cooperation opportunities and overcome any obstacles that may hinder the increase in trade exchange between the two countries.
This meeting comes within the framework of the Ministry of Supply’s keenness to enhance international cooperation and achieve sustainable food security through strategic partnerships with friendly countries.
