Palestinian sources said that, on Wednesday morning, the Israeli army forces fired live bullets at an international diplomatic delegation who was visiting the entrance to Jenin camp in the north of the West Bank, to see the field and humanitarian conditions in the camp.
The delegation was on a field visit to the camp
The agency explained that the shooting occurred during the delegation at the eastern entrance to Jenin camp, where the aim of the visit was to see the “tragic reality” in the camp due to the repeated Israeli military operations and the imposed siege.
Countries towards diplomats and journalists
According to the local sources, the Israeli soldiers opened heavily at the delegation and a group of journalists who were covering the visit, while they were near the iron gate set by the Israeli army at the entrance to the eastern camp.
The delegation included ambassadors and representatives of more than 20 countries
The sources stated that the delegation included ambassadors and representatives of many countries, including Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, the European Union, China, Austria, Brazil, Turkey, Japan, France, Britain, Canada, India, and Portugal, among other countries. The delegation had previously visited the headquarters of Jenin Governorate and listened to a detailed explanation from the governor on the economic and humanitarian conditions, the losses that were inflicted on the infrastructure, and about 22,000 displaced people who had to leave the camp.
The Israeli army acknowledges fire and justifies
For his part, the Israeli army acknowledged the launch of what it described as “warning shots” towards the delegation, claiming that the delegation “deviated from the accredited path” and entered an active fighting area without permission.
“Coordination was tightly entered into the entry of the delegation, and an accredited path was granted due to the danger of the area. According to the initial investigation, the delegation deviated from the path and reached a banned area, prompting our forces to fire dodged fires.”
Military investigation and promises to communicate with diplomats
The Israeli army confirmed that there were no injuries or damage as a result of the incident, and that the commander of the West Bank will conduct an immediate investigation. Civil Administration officers were also ordered to communicate with representatives of the countries concerned, and it was expressed “regret for the inconvenience” caused by the incident.
