Major General Khaled Mubarak, Governor of South Sinai, is participating in a documentary film on the Monastery of Saint Catherine, where the governor met with the official channel of the Jerusalem Orthodox Church, as part of the preparation for the production of a documentary film entitled “The Jewel of the Desert … the Monastery of Saint Catherine”.

The historical and religious importance of the monastery

The meeting dealt with the historical, religious and cultural importance of the Monastery of Saint Catherine, as one of the oldest monasteries in the world, which represents a unique model of religious coexistence and tolerance, and an essential destination for global religious tourism.

Governor: Saint Catherine Monastery, a symbol of peace and human heritage

Dr. Khaled Mubarak pointed out that the Monastery of Saint Catherine is not just a religious teacher, but rather a symbol of peace, history and human heritage. He said, “We are working hard to implement the vision of the political leadership in reviving this holy place and presenting it to the world as a unique spiritual and tourist radiation.”

The Monastery of Saint Catherine is among the oldest Christian monasteries in the world, as it was built in the sixth century AD by order of the Byzantine Emperor Justinian I. The monastery includes a unique group of rare religious manuscripts and symbols, as well as embraces the famous Al -Tajli Church, and the Holy Blind tree, which the Prophet Moses receives revelation.

The monastery was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2002, because of its unique spiritual and cultural value that combines the three heavenly religions.

Promotion of St. Catherine

This documentary film comes in the context of supporting the continuous efforts to promote the St. Catherine region as one of the most prominent religious and cultural tourism destinations in Egypt, and within a comprehensive plan to enhance its position on the global map, in line with the spirit of the “Great Transfiguration” project.

It is worth noting that the development of the Deir St. Catherine region is second within the development of the greatest manifestation project, which is evolving, and it is intended to open by the end of this year, in the presence of President El -Sisi and some leaders and ambassadors of the countries of the world
