Ambassador Dr. Youssef Abdel Karim Boujeri, Director General of Legal Affairs and Human Rights at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, met with Mr. Patrick Modi, Director of the Middle East and North Africa region at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Commonwealth and British Development, and in the presence of Ambassador Dr. Arwa Hassan El -Sayed, head of the Ministry’s human rights sector, as part of his official work visit to the United Kingdom.
The meeting dealt with ways to enhance bilateral cooperation between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the United Kingdom in the field of human rights, ways to exchange experiences and best practices, especially in the areas of capacity building, and developing national mechanisms concerned with promoting respect and protection of human rights.
The two sides stressed the importance of strengthening constructive dialogue and continuous coordination between the two friendly countries in regional and international forums, in a way that serves common interests and enshrines the commitment to global values and principles of human rights, and enhances efforts to achieve sustainable development and the rule of law.
The delegation also met with Mrs. Olukimi Williams, Deputy Director of Education and Gender Equality, and Mr. Adam Farli from the British Foreign Ministry, where a number of issues related to empowerment of women, education, and equality were reviewed, and the prospects for cooperation in development initiatives with a human and human dimension were reviewed.
The Bahraini delegation also briefed the British side of the pioneering efforts made by the Kingdom of Bahrain in the field of promoting women’s rights, and the achievements of the Kingdom in the areas of political, economic and social empowerment, in addition to the national initiatives that establish the principle of equal opportunities and enhance the role of women as an active partner in development.
At the end of the meetings, the two sides expressed their aspiration to continue the existing cooperation and joint action and intensify coordination in the future in a way that contributes to expanding the horizons and areas of cooperation and exchanging visions on issues of common concern.
