Lee Sansom, the former personal goalkeeper of Princess Diana and Emiri William and Harry, died at the age of 63, after a sudden heart attack, according to his wife via a Facebook post.
Lee, who served as an officer in the Royal Military Police, was known for his loyalty to Princess Diana and accompanied her on her last vacation at the San Tropene Resort in 1997, just weeks before her tragic death in Paris. He was charged with the protection of the princess and her two sons within the security team of Mohamed Al -Fayed.
His wife published a touching farewell message in which she said: “I had a spiritual companion, my hero, and the most amazing man in my world. He will remain loved forever.”
During his career, Sansom assumed the task of protecting prominent personalities, including Alex Salmond, Celster Stallone, Tom Cruise, and Nicole Kidman. Princess Diana called him “Rambo” in appreciation of his combat skills, as he was carrying black belts in karate, jujitsu and cake boxing.
In his book “The Personal Guard” issued in 2022, Sansom reviewed the details of his close relationship with Dana and her two sons, revealing human moments in which they participated, including the teaching of Prince Harry to lead a water bike, and the sympathy of Diana after the killing of her friend, Jani Versace.
On more than one occasion he expressed his conviction that Diana could have survived the deadly accident if she was wearing a seat belt, stressing that wearing the belt was a usual security measure that he always keen.
Sansom was born in Burnley, Lanschire, and began his career as an officer in Northern Ireland during the turmoil, before moving to work as a personal guard in the private sector. He had the confidence of Muhammad Al -Fayed, who he considered as a member of his family.
