Hazem Al -Menoufy, a member of the Food Division of the Chamber of Commerce, warned of the serious repercussions that may result in the application of the old rental bill in its current form, stressing that the commercial sector may be the first affected if the amendments are passed without a comprehensive community dialogue that takes into account the balance between the rights of the owners and the interests of the tenants.

Al -Menoufy said that the draft law raises widespread concern within the commercial circles, especially as it may lead to the threat of the stability of thousands of merchants and service providers, and undermines the stability of the markets if it is being implemented in a hasty manner without realistic study.

He explained that commercial contracts differ from residential, due to their association with long -term marketing investments and marketing plans, and that any sudden change in the rental conditions may lead to a significant increase in operating costs, and thus the reflection of this directly on the prices of goods and services provided to the consumer.

Al -Menoufy added: Thousands of merchants depend on rented headquarters that represent the nerve of their economic activity, and any decisions to evacuate or incredible increases in the rent that may lead to the collapse of their activities, which will be reflected in both the market and the consumer alike.

He pointed out that many commercial activities are afraid of an unknown fate for their headquarters, calling for the need to involve the chambers of commerce and civil society organizations in formulating relevant legislation.

Al -Menoufy stressed that legislative reform is a necessity, but it must be done on a transparent and fair foundations, while granting a sufficient transitional period that enables the owners of commercial activities to arrange their conditions.

Al -Menoufy stressed that protecting the merchant and the consumer are two sides of the same coin, and that maintaining the stability of the markets should be the supreme goal of any legal amendment.
