The founder of the “WikiLeaks” website, Julian Assange, participated in the Cannes Film Festival, wearing a shirt bearing the names of 4 thousand and 986 Palestinian children who were martyred in the Israeli bombing in the Gaza Strip.

Prior to the presentation of a documentary film that tells the story of his life under the title The Six Billion Dollaar Man, “The man who was six billion dollars”, Asang stood by his wife Stella Asang, on the stairs of the festivals palace, wearing a shirt carrying a great phrase on his back: “Stop ISRAEL- Stop Israel”, in a move that carried a strong and clear political message.

The French newspaper “Humanite” said that this step shows that “the long struggle of Asang for the truth is still fixed and effective.”

His declared goal was to uncover corruption and human rights violations, and to enable the press to play an effective supervisory role on governments and strong institutions.

The most famous of WikiLeaks was in 2010, when he revealed leaked documents related to wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. These leaks included a video showing American helicopters killing Iraqi civilians.

In 2012, Assange resorted to the Ecuador Embassy in London to seek political asylum, to escape his surrender to Sweden on the background of accusations of sexual assault, and she was denying it and considering it with political motives that eventually aim to surrender to the United States, as he was facing accusations of espionage and publishing secret documents.

Assange remained at the embassy for seven years, until he withdrew diplomatic protection in 2019, and the British police arrested him.

Since that time, he has fought legal battles against his delivery to the United States, where he faces accusations under the American espionage law that may lead to sentences for decades.

In June 2024, Assange was released after a legal deal with the American authorities, which allowed him to leave without a long penalty, to return to public life.

He is currently continuing his political and media activity, and is considered a global symbol of freedom of the press and the right of the public to access information.
