The labor market needs to open additional university specialties
The president’s assistance to media and public relations at the National University, d. Al -Shirawi’s revolution, the establishment of a national digital office with the participation of all universities in Bahrain, so that it is a reference for researchers, academics and a secondary graduate to get to know what suits them in terms of specialization.
During the “Al -Watan” symposium, entitled: “The future of the required university specialties in the labor market”, she stressed that there is an unlimited ambition to upgrade education outcomes in the Kingdom, noting that it looks forward to be Bahrain “crucible” for education in the region.
Al -Shirawi stressed the importance of supporting scientific research in national universities, so that she can keep pace with developments in the field of higher education and support the national economy, calling at the same time to enhance cooperation between universities in order to upgrade the education sector.
The president’s assistant for media and public relations at the university explained that the labor market needs to open additional university specialties, in advance: supportive medical programs, artificial intelligence, data analysis, renewable energy, oil and gas, engineering and food security, logistical services and even financial digital analysis, information security, many business management programs, and other modern areas that the labor market needs in line with a vision The Kingdom of Bahrain 2030.
She pointed out that directing students and preparing it towards the appropriate specialization starts from the home and then the school by enhancing the role of vocational counseling in schools, stressing in this regard the importance of introducing students to the existing and new specialties, so that they can choose what suits their tendencies and aspirations.
Regarding the disappearance of some existing university specialties, she emphasized that specialties cannot disappear, but may change their name and content, reaffirming that existing programs must be studied with the requirements of the labor market and create opportunities for entrepreneurship, economic diversity and keeping pace with modern technology.
Al -Shirawi stated that the universities of Bahrain outperformed many of their counterparts in the region in various fields, whether related to scientific research, in academic programs, or even in training students, calling for new markets to enter and increase networking with the universities of the region.
She noted that the National University has topped the quality lists in institutional and academic performance, explaining that it is one of the first national universities to be included in the national framework of qualifications, in addition to obtaining the prestigious global credits from international accreditation institutions.
Universities called for strategic partnership with companies and institutions to determine the required skills, cooperative training programs and a periodic analysis of the labor market to update university majors and encourage students to future specializations, even if they are not “popular” currently, are there specific specializations sensitive to Bahrainis?
She pointed out that universities play their role, decline in curricula and develop skills, and they detail specialization, its outputs, training and skills for the labor market, but the labor market is inherently variable.
She indicated that the private sector has an important role in cooperation with universities to increase applied research to face challenges, explaining that there are national companies and institutions cooperating with universities.
Commenting on what MP Mounir Sorour confirmed that private universities in Bahrain are profitable, Al -Shirawi said: “It is true that they are profitable but they are obligated to spend 3% on scientific research, and employ many Bahraini competencies, and play an important role in community partnership and other requirements,” noting that if these universities are closed, a large number of employees will be lay off.
The President’s assistance to media and public relations at the National University offered her to the Higher Education Council and the Quality of Education and Training Authority, in exchange for the unlimited support he provides for the higher education sector in Bahrain, until the universities have provided their best specialties that are comparable to global, and the labor market.
