A new study revealed that taking vitamin D3 supplements per day may delay biological aging for years.
The study specifically dealt with the effect of nutritional supplements on telomeres in cells, which are frequent DNA sequences at the ends of chromosomes that prevent them from deterioration.
Telomarat is shortened during the natural aging process, and is linked to the development of many age -related diseases.
According to the British newspaper “The Independent”, the study was conducted on about 1054 American participants at the age of 55 and more, some of them asked to take vitamin D3 supplements (about 50 micrograms per day) and from others eating omega -3 fatty acids (one gram per day) for five years.
The length of the telomere in white blood cells was evaluated at the beginning of the study, at the end of it.
The researchers found that taking vitamin D3 supplements significantly reduced the erosion of the length of telomeres, and that the supplements delayed biological aging for nearly 3 years.
However, the omega -3 fatty supplements of the omega -3 fatty acids had no effect along the telomere throughout the follow -up period, according to researchers.
“Our results indicate that taking vitamin D3 supplements may represent a promising strategy to counter biological aging, as he plays a noticeable role in combating telomere or cell aging,” said Heidong Chu, one of the authors of the study.
However, he stressed the need for more research on a broader number of participants to verify these results.
