The Ministry of Education issued a decision regarding the list of student discipline for all levels of study in government schools, to organize mechanisms for dealing with behavioral violations according to clear educational standards, taking into account the age differences and the needs of students with special needs. She emphasized that the aim of the list is not punishment, but rather “evaluating behavior and enhancing self -responsibility”, with a focus on dialogue and guidance as basic tools.
These procedures are expected to make a qualitative shift in dealing with negative behaviors, especially in light of the increasing use of technology and its impact on the school environment.
The new regulations classified the violations into 4 categories, as the first category included the unjustified absence and repetition in delaying the classes or not bringing the tools, repetition in delaying work, morning queue or class Additional, and in repeated cases the student is separated and transferred to the “home” system.
In the second category, violations included violating school systems or instructions, abuse of students or educational staff, riots or spreading rumors, introducing electronic devices without permission, smoking or possessing tobacco products, and their penalties range from written warning, suspending participation in activities for a semester, confiscation of electronic devices, separating the student and transferring him to a “houses” system.
The third category included bullying violations, physical and verbal assault on students, educational staff, or sabotage, theft and fraud in exams, penetration of electronic accounts and the use of technology in an unsafe technology, and leads to removing the student’s academic results or suspending the class entry for a period of a semester, or separating the student and transferring him to a “houses” system.
In the highest category, serious violations such as deploying pornographic materials or morals, sexual harassment, possession of weapons or dangerous materials, or forgery or gathering to stimulate riots, abuse national symbols, imposed strict measures such as suspending the entry of the class for a long time, or removing the academic results, may reach the final semester and transfer the student to the “houses” system.
The regulations referred to the implementation mechanisms so that a “student discipline committee” is formed in each school to investigate violations and take appropriate decisions, and obligate schools to notify the guardian in writing in the event of repeated violations, with the possibility of summoning him to attend, while granting the student the right to grievance within 7 days from the date of notifying him of the decision.
The regulations also took into account special circumstances such as the student’s age and his psychological and social situation, especially for people with special educational needs, and called to direct cases that need psychological support to the Ministry of Psychological and Academic Counseling Center.
