Starlink, affiliated with SpaceX, led by Elon Musk, announced on May 16, 2024, through its official account on the X platform, the launch of high -speed internet services in the Kingdom of Bahrain. This achievement comes after the company obtained a license from the Bahrain Telecommunications Regulatory Authority in 2022, which allows it to provide satellite telecommunications services throughout the Kingdom and the region.
The authority explained that this license enables individuals and companies to benefit from advanced communication technologies, in line with Bahrain’s strategy to enhance digital infrastructure. In this context, Philip Marnet, the general manager of the authority, said: “We are committed to providing advanced communications solutions that support the Kingdom’s development vision and meet the needs of the public and private sectors.”
Starlink’s service depends on a wide network of satellites in the low ground orbit, ensuring a significant reducing delay time. The service is characterized by speeds that compete with optical fiber technology, and it serves not only homes and companies, but also moving sectors such as ships and aircraft, which enhances innovation in transportation and logistics.
This launch is a big step that enhances Bahrain’s position as a leading technical center in the region, especially with the increasing need for reliable communications solutions in light of the accelerated digital transformation.
