Researchers have warned that excessive relaxation after recovering from a heart attack may double the risk of infection In a heart attack New life -threatening complications, according to a recently published study in the journal of blood circulation.

The study showed that people who sat for more than 14 hours a day after year to receive treatment for symptoms of a heart attack, were more likely to develop a new seizure or death by 2.5 times, compared to those who practiced higher physical activity.

The move is better than silence

The main researcher in the study, Dr. Keith Diaz, associate professor of behavioral medicine at the University of Colombia’s medical center, explained that the benefits do not require hard effort, but rather that just reduce the time of sitting and increasing the time of movement or even sleep may make a big difference.

Diaz said: It is not necessary for the patient to run a marathon to benefit, so replacing a little sitting with movement or sleep can significantly reduce the risk of heart complications.

The results of the study in numbers

The study included more than 600 participants between the ages of 21 and 96 years, all treated from heart attacks or chest pain between 2016 and 2020, and they were provided with infallible devices to monitor their motor activity for approximately 30 days after leaving the hospital.

It was found that replacing 30 minutes of sitting daily with a moderate or strong physical activity reduces the risk of a heart attack, stroke, or 61%death, and replacing sitting with a slight activity that reduces the risk by 50%until sleep instead of sitting reduced the risk by 14%.

Comfort is not always the solution

Diaz added that the results surprised the research team, especially with regard to the effect of sleep, saying: Sleep is an important compensation behavior after exposure to a health problem, and it seems that it plays a positive role in recovering from heart attacks.

For her part, Dr. Bethani Baron Gibbs, a spokeswoman for the American Heart Association, indicated that the study supports the strategy “sitting less and move more”, stressing that even light activity can make a clear difference, especially for patients who are having difficulty practicing extensive exercises after leaving the hospital.
