The governor of Sohag explained that all the dues for farmers, which amounted to 2.5 billion pounds so far, have been disbursed, noting that the supplied quantities have exceeded the target rate for this year within one month of the beginning of the supply, which supports the vision of the political leadership and the state’s plan to achieve self -sufficiency from the wheat crop, enhance food security, reduce the import bill, and provide hard currency.

The governor stressed all the concerned authorities to overcome obstacles in front of farmers, the continued field follow -up of the receipt and periodic examination of the incoming quantities, and to tighten control over the circulation of wheat to prevent the leakage of any quantities outside the governorate.

For his part, Dr. Sameh Al -Toni, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Supply in Sohag, explained that the supply rates that were registered this year are the highest compared to previous years, which led to the fullness of all storage sites in the governorate, adding that the grinding of quantities of new wheat will start to accommodate the additional quantities expected to be received during the coming period.

It is noteworthy that the area cultivated with wheat this year amounted to 192 thousand acres distributed over the various centers of the governorate, and 17 storage sites were equipped to receive local wheat, and the formation of field committees to receive and sort the wheat and ensure that they match the specifications, starting their work daily from eight in the morning until seven thirty in the evening.

The price of the Ardab was determined this year according to the degree of purity, as it reached 2200 pounds to the degree of purity of 23.5, and 3 to 4 cells were allocated to receive imported wheat, in addition to raising the storage capacity of West Tahta silos from 60 thousand tons to 90 thousand tons, in support of the state’s efforts to secure a strategic reserve of wheat.
