Sotheby’s auctions has announced the sale of a rare blue diamond called “The Jewel of the Mediterranean”, with a weight of 10.3 karat, compared to $ 21.5 million at an auction held in Guinife on May 13.

The auction began on the diamond at a price of 9 million Swiss francs (about 10.8 million dollars), before its price doubled to approximately to 17.9 million francs (21.5 million dollars), as it was bought by an unveiled American collector mosque.

This rare diamond was extracted in 2024 Collinan Mines in South Africa, and it is one of the rarest types of diamonds in the world. Before selling it in Jennif, it was offered in a special exhibition in Abu Dhabi, along with seven diamonds and other gemstones, whose total value exceeded 100 million dollars.

Sotheby’s estimates indicate that only 0.3% of diamonds in the world have rare blue, and a lower percentage comes in the distinctive Fancey Vivid Blue like this diamond.
