Researchers from Italy and Australia have found that fir trees (a genus of coniferous trees) can expect the eclipse of the sun several hours before it.
The research team led by Professor Alessandro Comirio from the Italian Institute of Technology monitored the electrical activity of firing trees during the partial solar eclipse witnessed by the Italian Dolumite region in October 2022. Using advanced sensors, scientists were able to monitor a noticeable coincidence in the electrical signals between the trees before and during the astronomical phenomenon.
The most exciting thing is that at least 70 -year -old trees showed a more clear response than the younger trees (20 years), indicating the development of a predictive mechanism with age. The researchers also monitored electrical waves that move between trees, which enhances the theory of vegetarian communication across the forest.
These results, which were verified using advanced computer models, open new horizons in understanding the behavior of plants and methods of their communication, and will be the axis of a new documentary entitled “The Forest Code” that is shown next year.
