The Water Stations Company for Electricity Production, affiliated to the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy, has announced the launch of a comprehensive development project for the Higher Dam Cyber power plant, aimed at raising the nominal capacity of the station from 2100 megawatts currently to 2,400 megawatts by 2028.

This project comes within the framework of an integrated development plan that includes the modernization of the technical and operational structure of the station, with investments of about 2.5 billion Egyptian pounds, equivalent to about 41 million euros, with the aim of enhancing the efficiency of generation and sustainability of performance in the long run.
This came during the work of the ordinary general assembly held today, Wednesday, headed by Eng. Jaber Desouki, President of the Holding Company for Egypt Electricity, discussing the planning budget for the water stations company to produce electricity for the fiscal year 2025/2026, in the presence of leaders from the Ministry of Electricity and the company’s officials.
The project is scheduled to include the replacement and renewal of 20 capabilities, which contributes to increasing generated energy, raising the efficiency of units operation, and improving the available allowances. This update is a pivotal step in the electricity sector strategy to develop the infrastructure of renewable energy and maximize the benefit of water resources.
The company aims to generate electrical energy estimated at 14,942 million kWh, and sell approximately 14,830 million kWh during the year, according to water behavior determined by the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation. The company’s contribution rate in the national network was 8.78% until the end of April 2025, with expectations of 9% at the end of next June.
Dr. Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, had made several field visits to the high dam power plant of the water stations company in Aswan Governorate, in order to inspect the workflow and follow up the developments of the implementation of the project of developing and replacing the transformers for the dam station Fuel consumption is equivalent to 269 million dollars, as well as increasing the production age and maintaining the operating level of the high dam station as one of the clean energy sources.
