The Lebanese Prime Minister, Nawaf Salam, said that the region was satisfied with the Iranian -American polarization, expressing his hope that the Arabs will return to Lebanon as Lebanon has returned to them.
Salam added in a special meeting with “Sky News Arabia”: “The Arab brothers and our friends in the world had lost their confidence in Lebanon, and we work day and night to restore the confidence of the Arabs in Lebanon, contemplating that the Arabs will return to Lebanon as Lebanon returned to them, with the support of the Arab brothers and our friends in the world we will be able to succeed.”
He pointed out that “Lebanon will be an attractive land for Arab investments, and work is underway to provide conditions that allow export to return to Saudi Arabia.”
He explained that he hoped: “to change the rules of the political process in Lebanon, the political process in Lebanon left wars, there were several attempts to reform the political system, but it did not succeed.”
He pointed out that “the Taif Agreement was selectively applied, which spoiled the political process, and it must be returned to the completion of the application of what was not applied from it.”
He continued: “Administrative decentralization and the independence of the judiciary are provisions that have not been applied from the Taif Agreement. There are several gaps in the Taif Agreement that must be overcome.”
Independence of the judiciary and fighting corruption
Salam stressed that he appealed to all politicians in Lebanon to lift their hands from the judiciary, stressing that it completely supports the independence of the judiciary.
Salam indicated that “the aspirations are great, but the possibilities, especially material, are weak,” stressing that “fighting corruption is not an easy but necessary process. We will not be silent about any corruption or any waste of public funds.”
He stressed that “the current government has accomplished what was not completed by others ten years.”
There is no weapon except with the state
On the issue of weapons in Lebanon, Salam told “Sky News Arabia”: “We will not be silent about the survival of any weapon outside the authority of the state.”
He expressed his confidence that “the majority of the Lebanese people stand by our side, my strength to restore people’s confidence in the state and the project to rebuild the state, what matters to us is the confidence of people, and not to satisfy the footnote, I realize that there are rooted interests, and we face them.”
He continued: “We are seeking to put the country on a new railway, I cannot expect where we will arrive, but we are definitely on a new way.”
What about peace with Israel?
According to Salam, “treachery in Lebanon has become a political weapon, and I did not provoke the chants that accused me of being a Zionist.”
According to peace, he is “sad because there is an occupied part of Lebanon. We are peaceful students, but we want a fair and sustainable peace.”
Regarding the camp weapons in Lebanon, Salam said that “the danger in the camps weapon is to turn into a Palestinian sedition, and the power of Palestine today is not with weapons, but rather international recognition and diplomacy.”
Drug file
Salam touched on the issue of drug smuggling, saying: “Lebanon, which used to publish books and science, ended today to export drugs, Lebanon will not be a drug smuggling of any country.”
