In a development aimed at alleviating tensions in South Asia, Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif thanked US President Donald Trump for his role in facilitating the ceasefire with India.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Shahbaz Sharif said: “We thank President Trump for his leadership and pre -emptive role for peace in the region. Pakistan appreciates the United States for facilitating this result, which we accepted in order to ensure regional peace and stability. We also thank Vice President JD Vans and Foreign Minister Marco Rubio for their valuable contributions for peace in South Asia”
He added: “Pakistan believes that this represents a new beginning in resolving the issues that stormed the region and prevented its path towards peace, prosperity and stability.”
India and Pakistan reached a ceasefire agreement, after American talks, to end the conflict between the two countries.
US President Donald Trump had stated, earlier in insult, that the two countries agreed to a ceasefire, after talks in which Washington mediated.
This comes after weeks of hostilities between the two nuclear states, where they exchanged missile shelling, marches, and artillery shelling, in the most confrontation between them in decades.
The confrontations between the two countries came after a bloody attack last month in the Indian part of the disputed Kashmir region.
India blamed Pakistan for the attack that killed about 26 people.
