National Tunnels resort to German companies to evaluate competitors to develop the second line of the metro

The National Authority for Tunnels of the Ministry of Transport intends to resort to an alliance consisting of 3 German companies, in order to evaluate the competitors on the project to develop the second line systems of the metro “Shubra Al -Khaimah – Al -Munib”.

Informed sources in the authority stated that the German alliance includes EHAF engineering consulting companies and Duchsa Ban Ban German and E&C, in order to provide advisory and technical services that contribute to increasing the authority’s ability to advance the levels of operation and maintenance of the current metro network.

The second line development plan for the metro

The National Tunnels Authority had recently received; 4 technical offers from major consulting offices, in order to seize the right to develop the second line of the Cairo -Munib Tunnel Metro “Al -Munib – Shubra Al -Khaimah”, according to sources familiar with the Tunnels Authority.

The sources added to Cairo 24, that among the offers presented; A presentation from the French Consultant Office Arteleh, which is considered one of the most important international offices in hydraulic projects; Where the office designed dam projects and all hydraulic projects such as tunnels, channels and irrigation projects, and participated in the design and review of the engineering construction of ten of the most important hydraulic dam projects in the world.

She indicated that it comes among the offers made as well; An alliance consisting of the Sinir Office for Spanish Engineering, and the Shaker Consulting Group, which is considered a high -specialized consultant and engineering company in the fields of electrical, mechanical, construction and architectural services, which is owned by Dr. Mohamed Shaker, former Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy.

The sources stated that all the offers submitted by the consulting offices will be studied, and the stability of the list of final offers submitted to develop the project will be studied; It will be disclosed and the appropriate selection to start implementing the development scheme.

Details of developing the second line of the metro

On the development plan for the second line of the metro, Major General Tariq Joeli, head of the National Tunnels Authority, revealed that the development plan for the Greater Cairo Tunnels is aimed at increasing the capacity, reducing crowds, and improving the distillation time to meet the steady increase in the number of passengers.

Gowei said in previous press statements that the development work includes the update of trains and systems periodically, as 20 trains have been supplied to the first line, and 6 new trains for the second line, while 23 trains are being rehabilitated in the first line, and contracting to rehabilitate 39 trains in the second line.

He also indicated that 55 new air -conditioning trains are being manufactured and supplied, as part of an expanded plan to update the mobile units fleet to keep pace with operating requirements and increase population density on metro lines.

A comprehensive update for systems and infrastructure

In the context of updating the infrastructure of the first line, the Tunnels Authority signed a contract on August 28, 2024, with a coalition of companies that include French “Collas Rail”, “Orascom Construction”, and “Hitachi”, led by Collas Rail, to implement the fully updating of the line systems, including:

  • Signal systems
  • Communications and central control
  • Electromechanical works and electric powers
  • Aerobic network
  • Railway
