Dr. Maya Morsi, Minister of Social Solidarity, witnessed the opening of the activities of the Arab Regional Policy Forum on Doha Declaration “Family and the Great Contemporary Changes”, in the presence of Sheikha Dr. Hessa Al Thani, Assistant Professor of Qatar University, Ambassador Haifa Abu Ghazaleh, Assistant Secretary -General, Head of the Social Affairs Sector at the League of Arab States, and Ambassador Tariq Al Ansari, Ambassador of the State of Qatar in Cairo and its permanent representative at the League of Arab States, and Ambassador Talal Al -Mutairi Ambassador The State of Kuwait in Cairo and its permanent representative at the League of Arab States, Ambassador Nabila Makram, head of the Technical Secretariat of the National Development Action Alliance, and Dr. Sharifa Noman, Executive Director of the Doha International Family Institute.
Morsi stressed that last October celebrated the 30th anniversary of the International Family year at a distinguished conference held in Doha and came out with the “Declaration of Doha” that put the family in the heart of the development agenda, noting that the Arab region is witnessing major and accelerating changes, in which challenges intensify in light of major social, economic and technological changes, throwing their weight on all groups, foremost of which is the Arab family.
The Minister of Solidarity touched on the tragic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, which imposes on everyone a serious pause in the face of the size of the tragedy facing Palestinian civilians, where the residents of the Strip suffer from food insecurity, an indication that warns of an imminent humanitarian catastrophe, and on the social level we are witnessing the disintegration of family units, loss of the children, and a growing in the numbers of children who have become in the circle of danger and exploitation, so what We are witnessing it in Gaza is not just a passing humanitarian crisis, but rather a real challenge to the values and principles of humanity in which collective responsibility requires urgent action to provide the necessary protection and support for Palestinian families, ensure that humanitarian aid has reached enough and sustainable, and work in every way to end this tragic situation that threatens security and regional and international stability.
Morsi explained that the Ministry of Social Solidarity places the family at the top of its priorities, and in order to enhance the cohesion of the family and build a more stable society, the national program was launched to preserve the Egyptian family entity “Mawadda” in 2019, under the generous sponsorship of the President Understanding and safety, and providing them with the knowledge and skills necessary to build strong and stable families.
Over the past 5 years, the program has succeeded in reaching nearly one million and two hundred thousand beneficiaries, while its digital platform attracted about five million users, and recently, “Mawadda” launched a new service on its digital platform to provide free family consultations, entitled “Ask Mawadia”, to be a beacon that guides families and helps them overcome obstacles and difficulties, which contributes to improving the mental health of each of its members, It increases the feeling of happiness and contentment.
The role of family guidance and counseling offices has been activated, which is one of the projects of the Ministry of Social Solidarity that achieves social welfare of the family, as it works to address violence issues and family problems and provide various services to all family members “as a preventive and treatment foreigner for family problems” in a way that includes health awareness, education, economic empowerment, psychological and legal support.
The Minister of Solidarity indicated that the Ministry is implementing the conditional monetary support program “Takaful and Dignity” as the largest social network in Egypt, and covers 4.7 million families, and the percentage of women in the program is 74%, and integrated programs are implemented to support positive education and educate families.
Morsi stressed that we need real regional cooperation and wide participation of governments, community organizations, the private sector and media institutions to form a unified Arab front that defends the family, as well as social policies that take into account the privacy and circumstances of the Arab family.
