In light of an unprecedented height wave in the hay prices in Luxor Governorate, “Cairo 24” met with a farmer of the Armant Center, named Ahmed Abdel Baset, who talked about a crisis that he described as the strongest for years, especially with the approaching Eid Al -Adha and increasing demand from fattening farms.

Farms: “We were buying 400 pounds … today 1600!”

Abdel Baset says: “The situation remained very difficult … The year that missed I was buying the campaign for 400 pounds, now for 1600, and in areas reached 2800 pounds.

He adds: “The problem is that the demand is very high days because of the Eid al -Adha, and all people want to name calves, but in many villages, they remained mainly dependent on hay.”

Multiple reasons .. The farmer accuses traders of monopoly

And on the causes of the crisis, Abdel -Basit explains: “In many factors, the most important of which is the transfer that remained very expensive, and also in merchants who monopolize the hay and store it in order to sell it at a more expensive price, and there is no control over them.”

He continues: “There was also a lack of wheat cultivation, because the farmers prefer to plant other crops at a lower cost, and the hay is coming from behind the wheat lesson … I mean, the supply remains less.”
