The German company “Haribo” withdrew a specific batch of the “Habi Cola” product from the Dutch market after discovering the presence of cannabis inside the dessert packages, causing consumers injury, including children, with disturbing health symptoms.
The German company “Haribo”, known for the production of gelatin sweets for children, has announced that it would take an immediate decision to withdraw a specific batch of its famous product “Habi Kola” from the Dutch market, after receiving reports that a number of people, including children, were subjected to healthy clashes that included feeling nauseous and dizzy after their consumption of the product. The competent authorities prompted the examination of candy packages, as traces of cannabis material were found, which necessitated immediate moves of the Food Safety and Consumer Products Authority in the Netherlands.
In official statements made by the authority’s spokesman for Dutch media sites, he said: “We withdrew samples from the mentioned product and subject them to accurate analyzes, and it has already been proven to contain cannabis material,” explaining that the relevant authorities began opening an expanded investigation to reveal the way this article was leaked to a product dedicated to children.
The spokesman added that the authority contacted Haribo, which issued an official warning to consumers, and made the decision to withdraw the preventive batch of the Dutch market, stressing that work is underway in coordination with the company to follow up the investigation.
In an official press release, Haribo confirmed that the incident is only limited to the Dutch market, and that the polluted batch of the product is specific and subject to control, stressing that all the products of “Haribo” available in other global markets were not affected in any way, and are completely safe for consumption.
The company spokesman said: “We put the safety of consumers at the top of our priorities, and we deal with this incident very seriously. Therefore, we immediately took precautionary measures by withdrawing the product affected by the markets, and we are closely cooperating with the competent authorities to help the investigations and reveal the circumstances surrounding this incident.”
According to the initial data, the case began when the local family informed the authorities that a number of its members were exposed to a health problem after eating “Habi Cola” candy, which led to the analysis of the product and the disclosure of the pollution of at least three packages with cannabis, which sparked widespread concern and pushed urgent moves by the supervisory authorities and the manufacturer alike.
