Entry of antiquities museums for free for Egyptians during the International Museum Day

Sherif Fathi, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, chaired the Board of Directors of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, at the Ministry’s headquarters in the government district of the new administrative capital.

At the beginning of the meeting, the minutes of the previous session meeting were approved, and the financial position of the Supreme Council of Antiquities was reviewed during the period from July 2024 to March 2025, and the revenues achieved during that period, as it was pointed out that the growth rate of this period in the visit movement in museums and archaeological sites amounted to 19% compared to the same period of the last fiscal year.

During the meeting, ways and mechanisms of condolences were discussed and raised the efficiency of services provided to visitors from Egyptians and tourists with 15 archaeological sites at the level of the Republic, to improve the tourism experience in it and provide an integrated cultural, civilizational and tourism experience for its visitors.

In this context, the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities directed the need to study each site separately to limit its needs, and to work immediately to provide tourism services in it appropriately, in a manner consistent with the general coordination of the site and the nature of the effect, and in a manner that ensures that the prestige of the archaeological site is not prejudiced.

Services development work includes providing guidelines, explanatory and maps, developing visitors and toilets centers, making umbrellas and seats for visitors’ convenience and garbage is designed for recycling, in addition to the work of brochures and brochures for those sites in both Arabic and English.

The development also includes the availability of these archaeological sites for people with determination by qualifying movement paths, and other services that improve the experience of visitors.

The Minister stressed that the provision of the archaeological sites that the archaeological sites in order to improve the tourism experience is a priority for the ministry during the current period, explaining that providing an easy and easy tourism experience will have a great impact on the movement of tourism coming to Egypt.

The members of the Board of Directors of the Supreme Council of Antiquities also approved a number of important decisions, including allowing museum visitors from Egyptians from different age groups to enter the open antiquities museums for the visit at the level of the Republic, for free, on May 18 this year on the occasion of the celebration of the International Day of Museums, except for the Egyptian Museum of Liberation and the National Museum of the Egyptian Civilization and the Grand Egyptian Museum, in addition to approval of the recommendations of the negotiating and evaluation committee regarding offers of providing and operating services In archaeological sites and museums, taking all legal measures and taking into account the rules followed in this regard.

In addition to approval in principle to increase the value of the exceptional reward that is spent for workers at the Supreme Council of Antiquities when reaching the legal age from the next fiscal year, provided that the controls for this matter are approved at the next meeting of the Board of Directors of the Supreme Council of Antiquities before its application.

A number of decisions of the Standing Committee for Islamic, Coptic and Jewish Antiquities were approved regarding the registration of three marble panels at the Mustafa Sarmad Al -Bayah Mosque in Al -Haddadin Street in Minya Al -Qamh in Sharkia Governorate, in records of the archaeological area, and the adoption of a number of decisions of the Standing Committee for Egyptian Antiquities regarding the work of archaeological missions in some archaeological areas, as well as recording artifacts from the product of excavation work.
