Egypt welcomed the direct negotiations held between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul, whose first session ended on Friday, May 16, 2025.
Egypt confirmed, in a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, that this step is an encouraging development, and hopes that it will pave the way to open a new page to restore calm, security and stability for the European continent, calling on both parties to take more steps to build confidence, in a way that contributes to reaching a ceasefire and achieving a political settlement between Russia and Ukraine that leads to ending the conflict that affected it.
It reaffirmed its position since the outbreak of the Ukrainian crisis, which is based on the necessity of settling conflicts by peaceful means, prevailing the language of dialogue, and reaching a solution that takes into account the concerns of all parties, in order to ensure international stability and security.
