The Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy has taken several intensive measures and preparations to prevent the repetition of the crisis last year regarding the work of loading the loads in Egypt, and the power outages in cities and governorates for several hours, during the summer, as the government is working to provide electricity regularly without the need to reduce loads or power outages in various cities and governorates.

The Ministry of Electricity announces: Do not reduce loads in Egypt during 2025

Dr. Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, said that the state continues its efforts to ensure the stability of the electricity network during the summer, adding that President Abdel Fattah El -Sisi is closely following renewable energy projects, which are gradually included in the national network to improve the efficiency and sustainability of the electricity system.

Regarding the relief of loads, Esmat stressed that the Prime Minister has indicated that the government will not resort to implementing a plan to reduce loads in the summer of 2025, to ensure the continuation of the electricity naturally.

Dr. Mahmoud Esmat has reassured the status of the electrical network, producing, transporting and distributing, and reviewed the procedures that were carried out through the urgent plan that has been implemented over the past months, to improve the efficiency of production units, change the operating pattern, introduce new capabilities of renewable energies and secure hot points at the level of distribution networks, and the return on a plan to reduce loss and confront electricity steps on the stability of the unified network, preparations for dealing with the rise Loads during peak time and other measures to secure stable electrical nutrition during the summer.

In the face of the increasing pressure on electricity consumption during the summer months, the Ministry of Electricity intensified its preparations early, as it developed a continuous action plan in cooperation with the Ministry of Petroleum, with the aim of maximizing the return on the fuel unit used in the generation of electricity, as 1000 MW of wind energy and 700 MW of solar energy were added.

Electricity preparations for the summer of 2025

Eng. Ahmed Al -Shennawi, an electric energy consultant, explained that the Ministry of Electricity pays great attention to ensuring the stability of the electrical network, which is one of the largest networks in the region.

He added that the network’s production capacity reaches 65 thousand megawatts, while the maximum consumption in July and August does not exceed 35 thousand megawatts, which ensures meeting the full local demand with the possibility of exporting the surplus to neighboring countries, provided that the necessary fuel is available.

Securing fuel and expanding renewable energy projects

Al -Shennawi added to Cairo 24 that the ministry has taken decisive steps to avoid any crisis, such as strengthening cooperation with the Ministry of Petroleum to secure sufficient quantities of natural gas and diesel. The Ministry also launched campaigns to combat the theft of electrical current, while facilitating the installation of code meters for violating buildings.

He pointed out that the ministry continues to expand renewable energy projects, with the opening of the Abydos 1 solar power plant in Aswan with a capacity of 500 megawatts in December 2024, which feeds more than 250 thousand homes and reduces carbon emissions by 670 tons annually.

Storage of energy with batteries

Al -Shennawi added that the ministry used for the first time in Egypt batteries to store electricity with a capacity of 300 megawatts/hour, in a joint venture with the Chinese company “Tina Solar”, which allows the continuous benefit from solar energy throughout the day, and a contract was also signed to establish the “Abydos 2” station with a capacity of 1000 megawatts.

The Ministry’s procedures to reduce fuel consumption

For his part, Mansour Abdel -Ghani, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Electricity, confirmed that the government will not resort to alleviating loads next summer, reassuring the citizens that the electrical current will be available for all industrial, commercial, agricultural, and home uses.

Abdel -Ghani said during televised statements, that the Ministry, in cooperation with the Ministry of Petroleum, has developed a continuous action plan to provide fuel and achieve the maximum benefit from it in generating electricity, which resulted in a reduction in fuel consumption by 8.3 billion pounds during the past six months.

Securing natural gas supplies for power stations during the summer

Engineer Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, also received the arrival of a new ship to receive the imported liquefied natural gas and convert it to its invasive state in preparation for pumping it into the National Natural Gas Network (Reconscious Ship).

This comes within the ministry’s plan to secure the natural gas supplies needed for power stations during the summer, as part of a package of integrative measures implemented by government ministries to ensure the stability of the electrical network.

The Ministry of Electricity continues to hold ongoing meetings with the competent authorities, especially the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, within the framework of the state policy, the government plan and the work program of the ministries of electricity and renewable energy, oil and mineral wealth, by providing electrical energy with quality, stability and continuity on various efforts and for all uses as an essential pillar to achieve sustainable development.
