The famous director Christopher Nolan continues to pay the limits of cinematic creativity, with his upcoming movie The Odyssey, which enters history as the first feature film that is fully filmed using IMAX cameras.

The film, produced by Universal Pictures and starring Matt Damon in the role of legendary champion Odysseus, is scheduled to be shown in cinemas around the world on July 17, 2026, and includes a bright crew of stars, including Tom Hollande, Zindaya, Ann Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Charles Theron, and Lutbeta Nyongo.
IMAX officially confirmed to People magazine that the work is filmed entirely using its advanced technologies, after the company’s CEO, Rich Gilvond, announced this achievement during a press conference held within the activities of the Cannes Film Festival 2025.
Gilvond noted that Nolan called for improving the design of IMAX cameras, and made it lighter, calm and flexible, promising to use it 100% in filming the movie if these conditions are fulfilled, which was already achieved, which prompted Nolan to fulfill his promise.
The film revolves around Odysseus’s long and arduous journey to return to his homeland after the fall of Trojan, and it is quoted by the famous Greek epic of Homer, and the project is an extension of the Nolan’s artistic career after the great international success of his former movie Oppenheimer, which won the Academy Award for Best Film in 2023.
Dimon, Holland and Zindaya were observed while filming the scenes of the film on the Italian island of Favinana during the month of March, while Universal revealed the first official image of Nayon wearing a historical shield and a traditional Greek cloak, in a look that reflects the strength of the legendary personality he embodies.
It is worth noting that the Odyssey was previously quoted in more than one cinematic and television work, but the Nolan version is the largest production and the most ambitious in terms of technology and visual narration.
